Unlock your full potential with the Nikon Z Mount system

Elevated optical performance with the Z Mount

We have said that S-Line lenses can achieve impressive new-dimensional optical performance – but how does that really work?

The S-Line range are glasses that were developed in pursuit of a higher level of optical performance. With Nano Crystal Coating employed in every lens from the range, it effectively reduces ghost and flare effects to enhance overall optical quality. These new specifications revolve around the revolutionary Nikon Z mount. The combination of the Z mount’s 55mm inner mount diameter and a 16mm flange focal distance gives the audience flexibility in performance thanks to the Z mount’s optical design. As a result, the Z mount system elevates photographers’ demands and expectations not just in the present, but also into the future. The development of S-Line lenses continues to break boundaries with its Z mount system, creating new opportunities that were not possible in the past.

The ground-breaking new specifications of the S-Line lenses allow information about the subject to be transferred to the sensor in the purest possible form, creating images that are as authentic as possible to the actual subject.

The Potential of the Z mount system in the S-Line

1) Shorter Flange Distance, Added Possibilities
Short, but sweet. The clearest difference brought about by the short flange distance is the creation of a much thinner camera body with an unprecedented compactness and an added level of convenience. So, a smaller camera, but with greater possibilities moving forward. A win-win.

2) Larger Inner Diameter, Higher Quality
The Z mount system also has a larger inner diameter of 55mm, which allows more light to be transmitted through it. This is important because a large mount allows light to reach even the edges of the frame with lesser forced refraction.
If the mount is small, then the lens nearest to the sensor will be smaller. The light going through these lenses must then be forcibly refracted to bend so that it can reach the edges of the image sensor. In general, when light bends, the light-quality is reduced, causing image deterioration.

With a larger mount diameter, the light does not need to bend as much to reach the edges of the sensor. In addition, the large inner diameter enables larger-size elements to be laid out near the image plane, which increases the possibility of creating a larger variety of lenses.

The flange focal distance has also been carefully designed to optimise the capturing of incoming light from NIKKOR Z lenses to the sensor, in the purest form possible.

These two new and improved specifications maximise the capabilities of the Z series. The newfound option to develop incomparable, conventionally difficult-to-make high-performance lenses really increases every photographer’s creative flexibility. Now, the possibilities are endless.

No matter which model you are using, S-Line lenses delivers richly detailed image expression and sharpness that brings a sense of reality. Find out more about the products from the range here:
